Almost half of the respondents are considering deploying wireless sensors this year. "A key factor is the cost of hard wiring sensors," said Mike Fahrion of B&B Electronics, which was presented at National Manufacturing Week in Chicago. "The survey confirmed an expected benefit from the wireless installations- over 50% of the respondents said they would save from $51 to $250 per sensor by eliminating cabling and its related labor costs." "The study showed us that wireless sensor applications will take a quantum leap during 2005 and 2006. The survey indicated that IEEE 802.15.4 "ZigBee" systems will be a major part of that expansion due to its easy application in mesh network systems," said Fahrion.
