Spikes and Surges Can Garble Messages and Damage Electronic Components

Surges - what causes them
Rogue data signals can be caused by a minor power spike in an electrical circuit or a nearby lightning strike with more than half of all electrical surges caused by fluorescent lighting or gas-filled light bulbs. Eliminate rogue currents by inserting an optical isolator in your data line.

Isolation - how it works
Optical isolation converts a voltage signal to an optical signal before being converted back to a voltage signal. This process isolates voltage anomalies from the protected equipment.

Isolation - an industry must
Optical isolation is a requirement for commercial and industrial communications. Spikes and surges on data lines create havoc in industrial applications. If you get a surge at home or the office, you may have to reboot. An inconvenience.

B&B Electronics ILinx family of industrial grade converters and repeaters boast top notch, 3-way optical isolation for rugged applications. Data ports are isolated from each other. Power supply is fully isolated with operation from 10V all the way up to 48V. With more installations having 48 VDC rails, you can take full advantage of your power rail and eliminate a power supply. Most are UL Class 1 DIV 2 rated, making them perfect for use in hazardous locations (see product details for specific ratings). They will also operate reliably in temperatures ranging from -40° to 185°F (-40 to 85°C). Model 232OPDRi isolates four RS-232 lines, two data lines in each direction, or one data line and one handshake line in each direction. Use as a repeater to extend the RS-232 signal beyond 50 feet (15 meters). cUL Class 1 DIV 2 approved.

Model 485OPDRi isolates one piece of RS-422/485 equipment from the rest of the system, or one RS-422/485 local group from another.

Model 485OPDRi repeater adds 4,000 feet (1.2 km) and another 32 nodes to an RS-485 data circuit. By configuring one side as RS-422 and the other as RS-485, Model 485OPDRi can acts as a converter to allow your four wire RS-422 equipment to talk to a 2-wire RS-485 device. UL Class 1 DIV 2 approved.
